The Reason this Democratic Party Refuses to Release their 2024 Election Autopsy: An Analysis.

This action by the DNC to block the release of its internal post-election analysis on the last presidential race seems stunning however entirely predictable. Opposed to hard truths, the Democrats' governing body behaves more like a PR firm than an electoral entity focused on cultivating grassroots capacities to secure victories.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Hesitant to depart from the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the committee has stayed under the influence of the previous administration all through this past year. Making public such a report might have shown that party leaders are interested to foster open debate about the missteps that enabled the former president to become president again. However, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to understand following the stunning loss from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: will this lead to victory? If not, it is an unnecessary diversion from our fundamental goal," a justification reportedly given for withholding the analysis.

Critical Problems an Analysis Could Have Examined

An autopsy report of substance would tackle head-on key points of failure. These include:

  • Voter Disengagement: The loss of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate during the previous election proved pivotal in the close recent race.
  • The Decision to Seek Re-election: The unwavering insistence of a party leader to stay in the race, alongside a very late step-aside, is seen by some as robbing Democratic voters the chance for open primaries.
  • Failing Core Democratic Voters: While facing economic anxiety, the campaign reportedly accommodating powerful financial backers without successfully attempting to address the role of big business.
  • The Foreign Policy Impact: The failure to shift a stance on the situation in Gaza reportedly led to alienating significant blocs, particularly with youth voters, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Youth Allegiance: Research shows a huge decline in support for the party among young voters.

A History Avoiding Accountability

This refusal aligns with a recurring tendency to avoid uncomfortable facts. This mirrors a situation where nearly all Democratic officeholder in Washington acquiesced to a sitting president's determination to running for re-election until a catastrophic televised debate led to a change.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers within the party's base had been continually telling researchers that they did not want that candidate to run again.

Financial Concerns

A substantive report might also probe matters regarding financial allocations, including what sums went to high-priced advisors and media firms over the course of a campaign that managed to spend a staggering amount over a few months.

A Broader Problem

At its core, the blockage of the official autopsy is symptomatic of an allegiance toward party leaders that oversaw a losing electoral effort. The implication to ordinary supporters – including countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they do not have a right to understand the lessons the leadership claim to have learned from a report based on extensive interviews.

An organization unwilling to honestly assess where it went wrong finds it difficult to break free from the cycle that proved so advantageous to their opponents.
